A BIT OF HISTORY

On my recent trip, I stumbled upon two interesting historic sites.

In Wheeling, West Virginia, I made a quick detour to check out the Wheeling Suspension Bridge.

Completed in 1849, it was the first long-span wire cable bridge in the United States. And for a couple of years, it remained the longest suspension bridge in the world.

You can’t drive on it today, but you can walk up to it, and it’s pretty impressive. I caught a local riding his bike across it. I don’t know if I would do that!

And during my stay in Easton, MD, I decided to take a drive to the town of Oxford, which was not all that far away. Quaint and extremely quiet, it had its own spot of historic significance…

I know so many people that would rather take a plane from point A to point B. But I love getting behind the wheel of a car and driving. Reminds me of my childhood family trips.

And for me, traveling is not just about getting from one point to the other…It’s the journey along the way as well.

For this trip, I drove over 2300 miles…from Bristol, RI to Syracuse, NY, to Toledo, OH, to Evanston, IL, to Columbus, OH, to Frederick, MD, to Easton, MD, and back home again.

Can’t wait for the next road trip!
